Birleşmiş Milletler Mülteciler Yüksek Komiserliği (BMYMK) tarafından yapılan yeni bir araştırmada, Ürdün, Lübnan ve Irak’ın kuzeyinde yaşayan bir milyondan fazla Suriyeli mültecinin mevcut salgından ekonomik olarak kötü bir şekilde etkilendiği bildirildi.
Çoğu mültecinin salgın öncesinde de yoksulluk sınırının altında bir yaşam koşuluna sahip olduğu açıklanırken, salgın sonrası Ürdün’de, Suriyeli mülteciler arasındaki yoksulluk seviyesinin yüzde 18 arttığı ifade edildi. Lübnan’da, artan enflasyon ve istikrarsız ekonomi ise mülteciler arasındaki yoksulluk oranının yüzde 56’ya kadar artmasına neden oldu. Lübnan’daki mültecilerin yaklaşık yüzde 90’ının asgari ücretten daha düşük maaşlar aldığı belirtildi. Öte yandan Kuzey Irak’taki mülteciler arasında ise yoksulluk seviyesi yüzde 25 yükseldi.
Raporda “Salgının ilk dalgalarına kıyasladığımızda geleceğe dönük tahminler, artan yoksulluğun 2021’e kadar sürebileceğini gösteriyor.” denildi.
Artan yoksulluk nedeniyle birçok Suriyeli mültecinin kirasını ödeyemediği, temel ihtiyaçlarını karşılayamadığı ve çocukların bir kısmının ekonomik sebeplerle okula devam edemediği belirtiliyor. BMYK’nin Orta Doğu ve Kuzey Afrika Şubesi Genel Müdürü Ayman Gharaibeh, “Suriyeli mültecilerin yaşam koşulları oldukça endişe verici.” dedi. Mevcut salgının insanlar üzerindeki maliyetinin çok yüksek rakamlarda olduğunu söyleyen Gharaibeh “Covid-19 krizi, insanların geleceğe yönelik beklentilerine büyük bir zarar verdi.” açıklamasında bulundu.
