Yeni sızan bir habere göre CIA, iyi eğitimli dört paramiliter subayını 2008 yılında Filipinler’de düzenlenen gizli bir deniz operasyonunda kaybetti. Geçtiğimiz hafta konuyu haberleştiren Yahoo News, bilgiyi emekli istihbarat çalışanlarına dayandırdı.
İddialara göre dört subay, CIA’in üç Özel Operasyonlar Grubu’ndan biri olan Denizcilik Şubesi için çalışıyordu. Özel Operasyonlar Grubu ise CIA’in Özel Faaliyetler Merkezi’nin altında bulunuyor. Bu birim, dünyanın dört bir yanında psikolojik operasyonlar planlayan ve denetlemekle görevli.
Yahoo News’in haberine göre dört subayın hayatını kaybettiği ölümlü operasyon Güney Çin Denizi’nde gerçekleşti. Bu bölge Çin, Tayvan, Vietnam, Malezya ve Filipinler tarafından hak iddia edilen tartışmalı bir bölgenin merkezinde yer alıyor. Dört subay, Çinli Halkın Kurtuluş Ordusu’na ait (HKO) sinyalleri dinlemek için kaya şekli verilmiş üst düzey bir takip cihazını yerleştirmekle görevliydiler.
Operasyon, Filipinler’de bir paravan şirket adına kayıtlı 40 feet’lik bir deniz aracının kullanılmasını gerektiriyordu. Teknedeyse operasyonu gerçekleştirecek Stephen Stanek, Michael Perich, Jamie McCormick ve Daniel Meeks isimli dört subay bulunuyordu. Grup lideri Stanek, CIA için çalışmaya başlamadan önce ABD donanması için mühimmat imha dalışçısı olarak çalışıyordu. Perich CIA’e Birleşik Devletler Ticari Denizcilik Akademisi’ni bitirdikten sonra katılmıştı. Diğer iki kişi ise destek personeli olarak teknede kalma emri almıştı.
Yahoo News, dört kişinin, 40 feet’lik gemiyi Japonya’ya götürmek için tutulduğunu gösteren evraklarla birlikte Malezya’dan hareket ettiğini iddia ediyor. Filipinler’in en büyük adası Luzon’a yaklaştıklarındaysa tropik fırtına Higos’a rağmen göreve devam etme kararı aldılar. Operasyonun planlayıcıları fırtınanın yön değiştireceğini ve Luzon bölgesine etki etmeyeceğine inandılar. Fırtına yön değiştirmeyince dört kişi denizde kayboldu ve bedenlerine ulaşılamadı.
Ölümcül kazadan aylar sonra CIA dört subayın ailesiyle iletişime geçerek Langley’de özel bir seromoni düzenledi. Törene CIA yönetimi de katıldı. Böylece tarihte ilk defa CIA çalışanların ailesine yakınlarının CIA’de çalıştığı söylenmiş oluyordu.
CIA’e ve subayların yakınlarına ulaşan Yahoo News, konuyla ilgili tarafların bir yorum yapmak istemediklerini belirtiyor.
