BM’nin (Birleşmiş Milletler) yayınladığı raporda İsrail ablukası altındaki Gazze’de 1 milyondan fazla insanın açlık sınırının altında olduğu, 10 yıldan fazla süren bu ablukanın da 16.7 milyar Dolar’a mâl olduğu açıklandı. BM’nin yeni yayınladığı raporda, 2006 yılında Hamas’ın seçimleri kazanmasına müteakip İsrail’in başlattığı engellemenin Gazze’deki ekonomik durumu oldukça kötü etkilediği belirtildi.
İsrail engellemesinin sebep olduğu ekonomik kayıp, Gazze’nin 2018 yılındaki gayri safi yurtiçi hasılasının (GSYH) altı katına eşit ve Filistin Yönetimi’nin GSYH’nin de %107’si olduğu raporda ifade edildi. BM raporunda ayrıca Gazze bölgesinin Filistin genelindeki toplam ekonomi payında %31’den %18’e düştüğü açıklandı. BM Gazze ile ilgili yaptığı uyarıda, sahil şeridinin küresel çaptaki en kötü ekonomik sürece sahip olduğunu, 2007 ve 2018 yılları arasında bölge ekonomisinin %5’den daha az büyüdüğünü açıkladı. İşsizlik oranı %52’ye ulaştı.
Söz konusu BM raporunda “Gazze ekonomisinin neredeyse çöktüğü” ve “Gazze ablukasının son bulmasını, bölge halkının işgal altında Filistin toprakları ve dünyanın geri kalanı ile özgürce ticaret yapmaları” çağrısında bulundu. BM’nin üst düzey isimlerinden Richard Kozul-Wright yapılan basın konferansında, “2 milyon insanın bu şartlar altında bırakılmasının 21. yüzyılda gerçek bir şok” olduğunu söyledi.
