Portekiz’in Ocak ayı itibarıyla Mozambik ile savunma alanında yeni bir ikili işbirliği programını açıklaması ve Afrika ülkeleriyle ilişkilerini güçlendirmesi bekleniyor.
Portekiz merkezli Lusa haber ajansına konuşan Portekiz Savunma Bakanı Joao Gomes Cravinho, Mozambik’e yaptığı gezide şu açıklamalarda bulundu: “Mozambik hükümetiyle ortak çalışmalar yürütmek amacıyla önümüzdeki ay askeri kuvvetlerimizden bir heyet, Cabo Delgado bölgesine intikal edecek. Heyetimiz, terörle mücadele kapsamında Mozambik ordusuna eğitimler verip, lojistik destek sağlayacak.“
Mozambik Kuzeyindeki Çatışmalar
Cabo Delgado bölgesi neredeyse üç yıldır silahlı grupların hedefinde. Bu saldırıların bir kısmının IŞİD terör örgütü tarafından gerçekleştirildiği iddia ediliyor. Bölgedeki çatışmalar sonucunda 2 binden fazla insanın öldüğü, 560 binden fazla kişinin yerinden olduğu bildiriliyor. Mozambik’in Tanzanya sınırındaki Cabo Delgado bölgesinde bu yıl içerisinde de çatışmalar, ciddi boyutlarda artmıştı. Terör örgütü IŞİD ile çatışmaların şiddetlenmesi sonrası Mozambik, Avrupa Birliği’nden silahlı kuvvetlerini eğitecek bir heyet göndermesini talep etmişti. 1 Ocak 2021’de AB Başkanlığına geçecek Portekiz, geçtiğimiz günlerde Maputo hükümetinin bu talebini destekleyeceğini söylemişti. Mozambik ile Tanzanya sınırındaki Cabo Delgado bölgesinde çıkan çatışmaların ardından çevre ülkelerle birlikte bir kriz masası oluşturulmuş ve söz konusu IŞİD saldırılarına karşı çözüm önerilerinde bulunulmuştu.
ABD Dışişleri Bakanlığı Terörle Mücadele Koordinatörü Nathan Sales, geçen hafta Mozambik’in kuzeyinde gerçekleşen saldırıların IŞİD bağlantılı olduğunu ve bu saldırıların küresel bir terörizm tehdidi olarak görülmesi gerektiğini ifade etmişti.
