Belçika’nın başkenti Brüksel’de, Avrupa Birliği kurumlarına ait binaların olduğu bölgede yer alan Ulu Camii idaresinin ‘inanç topluluğu’ olarak tanınma isteği, istihbarat dairelerinin tavsiyesi üzerine reddedildi.
Belçika hükümeti, Ulu Camii’nin içerisine ‘Faslı casusların sızdığını’ iddia ederek, özel statü başvurusunun reddedildiğini açıkladı. Camii yönetiminde bulunan bir müdür ile birlikte üç camii çalışanının daha Fas istihbaratına bağlı ajanlar olduğu öne sürülüyor.
Kararla ilgili konuşan Belçika Adalet Bakanı Vincent Van Quickenborne, Belçika’da yabancı yönetimlerin İslam’ı kendi istekleri doğrultusunda kullanamayacağını söyledi. Ülkede radikal islama geçit verilmeyeceğini belirten Quickenborne, camii idaresinde değişiklik yapılmadıkça yönetimin tanınmayacağını duyurdu.
Quickenborne, Belçika’daki VRT Radio 1 kanalına verdiği demeçte, ülkedeki Müslüman topluluklarını temsil eden en büyük kurum olan Müslüman Yürütme Konseyi’ne, örgütte bulunan Fas hükümet temsilcilerini tasfiye etme ve ülke için iyi niyetli olan Müslümanları kadroda bulundurması çağrısında bulundu.
Ülkedeki Müslüman toplulukları ise ajanlık iddialarının gerçek dışı olduğunu savunuyor.
Belçikalı yetkililer, 2016 yılında başkentte gerçekleşen saldırılar sonrası Ulu Camii’ye yönelik soruşturma başlatmıştı. 1969 yılında ucuz petrol karşılığında Suudi Arabistan’a kiralanan caminin tanınma statüsü, söz konusu saldırılar sonrası radikalizmi teşvik ettiği gerekçesiyle feshedilmişti.
