Fransa Savunma Bakanlığı, Mali’de gerçekleştirilen Barkhane operasyonu kapsamında yaklaşık 50 militanın öldürüldüğünü duyurdu. Fransa Savunma Bakanı Florence Parly, Twitter hesabı üzerinden, Fransız kuvvetlerinin 30 Ekim tarihinde Mali’deki el Kaide militanlarını hedef aldığını açıkladı.
Başkent Bamako’da Mali’nin geçiş hükümeti yetkilileriyle yaptığı görüşme sonrasında açıklamalar yapan Parly, operasyonun Burkina Faso ve Nijer sınırı yakınlarında gerçekleştiğini ve hedef alınan militanların bölgedeki Fransız güçlerine ait bir noktaya saldırmak üzere olduklarını aktardı.
Parly’nin açıklamalarında şüpheli militanların oluşturduğu motosiklet konvoyunun tespit edilmesinin ardından insansız hava araçlarının bölgeyi vurduğu bilgisi yer aldı. Parly, hava saldırısında ayrıca ‘Mirage’ savaş uçaklarının da kullanıldığını söyledi. Bakan Parly, El Kaide ile bağlantılı militanlara yönelik gerçekleştirilen saldırıyı gruba karşı ‘önemli bir darbe’ olarak niteledi.
Bir Fransız askeri yetkiliye göre, saldırıda 30 adet motosiklet imha edilirken 4 militan da gözaltına alındı.
Fransa’nın askeri operasyonları kapsamında Sahel bölgesinde 5,000 askeri bulunuyor. ABD istihbaratının Sahel bölgesinde Amerikalı bir misyoneri kurtarma girişimlerinden bir gün önce Fransa’nın bölgede böyle bir saldırı gerçekleştirmesi tartışma konusu oldu. Bir bölge yetkilisi, daha önce kaçırılan birçok yabancı için büyük meblağların fidye olarak cihatçılara ödendiğini açıklamıştı.
