Mısır Genelkurmay Başkanı Muhammed Farid askeri bir heyet ile birlikte Sudan’ın başkenti Hartum’a resmi bir ziyaret gerçekleştirdi. Farid, Pazar günü Hartum’a gerçekleştirdiği ziyarette Sudanlı mevkidaşı Muhammed Osman El Hüseyin ile bir basın toplantısı düzenledi. Basın toplantısında iki ülke arasındaki iş birliği geliştirme ve askeri ilişkileri artırma konuları üzerinde duruldu.
Sudan yerel basınında yer alan haberlerde, iki yetkili ‘’Mısır ve Sudan silahlı kuvvetleri arasında ortak eğitim faaliyetleri uygulanması, sınırların korunması ve terörle mücadelede iş birliğine gidilmesi’’ konularında anlaşmaya vardı.
Sudan ordusu sözcüsü, bahsedilen ziyaret üzerine yaptığı açıklamada ‘’iki ülke orduları arasındaki köklü ilişkilere değinerek, Sudan ile Mısır’ın ortak tarihi ve coğrafi bağlara sahip olduğunu’’ belirtti. Ordu sözcüsü, iki ülke arasındaki askeri ilişkileri daha ileri boyutlara taşımak istediklerini söyledi.
Ziyarete ilişkin Mısır devlet kaynaklarından yapılan açıklamalarda, ‘’iki tarafın ulusal güvenlik ve ortak çıkarlarına ters düşen konularda ortak askeri ve güvenlik iş birliğinin hızlandırılması gerekiyor.’’ ifadeleri yer aldı.
Sudan, Mısır ve Etiyopya’nın farklı taleplerinden dolayı bağlayıcı bir anlaşmaya varılamaması nedeniyle Ağustos ayında duran Büyük Etiyopya Rönesans barajı projesi ile ilgili görüşmelerin yakın zamanda yeniden başlatılması planlanıyor. 2011 yılında başlanan baraj yapımı üç ülke arasındaki diplomatik kriz nedeniyle hala tamamlanamamış durumda.
