ABD Hazine Bakanlığı, Irak’taki ABD ve koalisyon askerlerine saldırılar düzenleyen Iraklı milisleri desteklediği gerekçesiyle İran’ın Irak Büyükelçisi İrac Mescidi’yi yaptırım listesine aldı. ABD tarafından yapılan açıklamada, görevini kötüye kullanan Mescidi’nin Irak Devrim Muhafızları’na aktarılan para transferlerini gizlemeye çalıştığı belirtildi.
Hazine Bakanı Steven Mnuchin yaptığı basın açıklamasında “Tahran yönetimi, İran Devrim Muhafızları yetkililerini bölgede büyükelçi olarak atayarak Irak’ın güvenliğini ve bağımsızlığını tehdit ediyor.” dedi. ABD, bağımsız ülkelerde belli konumlara gelmeye çalışan ve ABD seçimlerini etkileme girişimlerinde bulunan İran rejimi ve İran Devrim Muhafızları yetkililerinin yaptırım listesine eklenmeye devam edeceğini açıkladı. Amerikalı istihbarat uzmanları, geçtiğimiz gün Rusya ve İran’ın 3 Kasım’da yapılması planlanan başkanlık seçimlerine müdahale etmeye çalıştığını iddia etmişti. Ulusal İstihbarat başkanı John Ratcliffe bir basın toplantısında, seçmen verilerinin İran tarafından ele geçirildiğini söylemişti.
Öte yandan ABD, Hizbullah Merkez Konseyine bağlı iki Hizbullah yetkilisini de yaptırım listesine aldı. Yaptırım listesine alınan iki Hizbullah yetkilisinin Şura Konseyinde etkili iki kilit isim olduğu belirlendi.
Dışişleri Bakanı Mike Pompeo yaptırımları destekleyerek, İran Devrim Muhafızları Kudüs Gücü yetkililerinin Irak’ta kendi çıkarları adına bölge kaynaklarını sömürdüğünü belirtti. Pompeo “Hizbullah, ABD ve müttefiklerimiz için hala bir tehdit. Bugün, Tahran yönetimi ve üst düzey Hizbullah yetkililerine yaptırım uyguluyoruz. Bu yaptırımlarla terörist grubun faaliyetlerini daha fazla açığa çıkarıyor ve operasyonel ağlarını kesiyoruz. Tüm ülkeleri Hizbullah karşısında kendilerini korumaya ve grubun faaliyetlerini kısıtlamaya çağırıyoruz.” ifadelerini kullandı.
